1. What is automotive window film?
Car window tint, or film, is a polyester film made from Polyethylene Terephthalate, or PET. There are many types of window tints to choose from. Window films can be tinted with dyes, metals, or pigmentations to reduce glare, fading, and heat. You can also choose how dark or light you want your tint to be.
2. How are car window tints installed?
The film is applied to the inside of your car window. Our installation process begins by thoroughly cleaning the glass to remove dust, smudges, and dirt. We’ll then lay the film on the outside of the car’s window and cut out a piece of tint. The film is then trimmed to precisely fit your car’s unique shape. Our specialists will then remove the release liner and apply an application solution to the film’s adhesive, as well as to your window. The film is then placed on the inside of the window.
3. How much does automotive window tinting cost?
This will depend on the type of film chosen, how many windows you decide to cover, and the tint percentage. Our pricing is provided on a car-by-car basis.
4. Is tinting your car windows worth it?
Absolutely! In addition to blocking out 99% of harmful UV rays, automotive window tints can boost your privacy and protection. It can also keep your car’s interior from fading and enhances your comfort by reducing excess cabin heat.
5. How long will it take to tint my windows?
Our process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to four hours. Full-sized sedans take about one to two hours to install. If you’re only getting your two front side windows tinted, it should take about 30 to 40 minutes.
6. Can I tint my own windows?
While there are car window tinting kits available, we recommend never attempting to do it yourself. Like anything in life, experience leads to exceptional results.
7. What are the window tinting laws in California?
When choosing the shade of your tints, it’s important to follow the law. Different states have different regulations about how dark your car windows can be. The shade of window film is measured by the percentage of light that can pass through. This is called visible light transmission, or VLT. The lower the VLT is, the darker your windows will be. In California, the law requires that your front windshield and front side windows have a 70% VLT. However, you can tint your rear and backside windows as dark as you desire.
8. How long do window tints last?
The film we use will perform well for 10+ years. The better care you take of your tints, the longer they will last.
9. Can I roll my windows down after they’re tinted?
Yes. However, avoid rolling your windows down for two to four days after the initial installation. Doing so can cause the tint to peel.
10. How long should I wait to wash my car after getting my windows tinted?
You should wait 24 hours before washing your car.
11. How do I clean my tinted windows?
Wait a couple of days after the application to clean your windows. When you do so, use a soft, clean microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner. Don’t use any blue-colored cleaners on your tints! We recommend using vinegar Windex, which is green, or citrus Windex solutions.
12. How long does the film take to dry?
Drying, or curing, time will depend on the type of film you get. While the film is still curing, you might see tiny streaks, bubbles, or a haze. Don’t be alarmed! This is completely normal while the application solution evaporates.
13. Can tinted windows be re-tinted?
If your tints get damaged, we can remove the old film and reinstall the new tint.
14. How durable is automotive window film?
Car window film is extremely durable. It can even reduce the risk of your windows shattering because it holds the broken glass in place. However, always be mindful when loading or unloading your car. Sharp objects may scratch the film.
15. What is the best window tint brand?
We exclusively use XPEL at our shop because the product is extremely durable and offers the best warranty.
16. What does privacy glass mean?
This is a formal term used for car windows that have been tinted during the manufacturing process. These tints are typically applied to the rear windows.
