1. What is Paint Protection Film?

Paint protection film, also known as clear bra or clear wrap, is a thin sheet of transparent film that is seamlessly outfitted to the exterior of your vehicle. PPF efficiently protects your car’s paint from bird droppings, UV-ray exposure, bug splatters, and chips and scratches caused by road debris and rocks.

The urethane film’s “self-healing” top layer is made of elastomeric polymers that will return to their natural shape after being disfigured or scratched. To put it simply, paint protection film will always return to its flawless, pre-incident condition.

2. What is the Best Paint Protection Film?

There are tons of different PPF options available on the market. Here at American Wrap Company, we believe that XPEL is the superior clear bra choice. That’s because it’s the most advanced paint protection film in the industry and will preserve your car’s integrity for years to come.

3. How Long Does PPF Last?

XPEL warrants their paint protection film for 10 years. This covers cracking, staining, yellowing, bubbling, and delaminating.

However, you can increase the longevity of your clear bra by properly maintaining it. Do not pressure-wash your car for 24 hours after the initial installation. When washing your PPF, avoid car shampoos with the words “gloss” or “wax” in the name or description. Use PH-neutral soaps and GENTLY wash your car with a microfiber mitt. For best results, wash your car once every two weeks.

4. Will Paint Protection Film Damage My Paint?

XPEL PPF will NOT damage your car’s factory paint. The film’s innovative acrylic adhesive will not leave any residue or damage if it is removed by a team of professional technicians.

If your car has been repainted, and it wasn’t a great paint job, there is a risk that the paint could peel upon removal.

5. Can I Ceramic Coat my Clear Bra?

Yes! Getting ceramic coat installed over PPF will expand its lifespan and enhance the glossy finish. Additionally, adding ceramic coat will make it a lot easier for you to wash and maintain your ride.

6. What Can I Wrap in PPF?

You can wrap any painted panel on your vehicle. At American Wrap Company, we offer four different clear bra packages. Our basic package covers your headlights and front bumper. Our most comprehensive clear bra package involves us covering every inch of your car in paint protection film.

7. How Much Does Clear Bra Cost?

This will depend on the amount of coverage you choose to get. Our entry-level package starts at $500. A full wrap has a starting price of $4,000. You can choose to go mild or wild!

8. How Long is the Installation Process?

Again, this will depend upon the amount of coverage you get. Installation times will range from a few hours to a few days. Our team will always give you a time estimate before we get started.

9. Can Clear Bra Be Removed? Can I Remove It Myself?

PPF can easily be removed without damaging your car or leaving any adhesive residue behind. We highly recommend NEVER attempting a DIY clear bra removal in your driveway. Always let the experts do it.

10. Can I Install Clear Bra If My Car Already Has Defects?

Yes, you absolutely can. However, we recommend getting paint correction before applying PPF. Clear bra can magnify your vehicle’s imperfections.

12. Is Paint Protection Film Worth It?

This is the question we hear most often, and the answer depends on what you drive and how long you plan to keep it. For most vehicles in the Thousand Oaks area, PPF pays for itself by protecting against the rock chips, road debris, and harsh sun exposure that are unavoidable on local routes like the 101 and 23.

A high-quality XPEL installation typically costs between $500 for partial coverage and $4,000+ for a full wrap. Compare that to the cost of a full repaint (often $5,000 to $10,000+) or the resale value hit a paint-damaged vehicle takes at trade-in, and the math works out for most owners of vehicles they plan to keep for more than two or three years. For luxury, exotic, and EV owners (where factory paint is often softer and harder to match), PPF is essentially a requirement to preserve resale value.

13. Does PPF Turn Yellow Over Time?

This myth was true a couple of decades ago. Outdated PVC-based films would discolor, peel, and crack after sustained UV exposure. Modern thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films, which is what XPEL uses, are engineered to resist UV degradation.

14. Can I Wax My Car After PPF Installation?

You don’t need to wax PPF, and we don’t recommend doing it with traditional paste or liquid waxes. Wax can build up along the edges of the film and create a visible residue line over time. If you want that glossy, just-detailed finish, use a spray wax or detail spray formulated to be PPF-safe, or have a ceramic coating installed over the film.

Ceramic coating on top of PPF is actually our most popular combination because it makes maintenance easier and adds an extra layer of protection.

15. Does PPF Reduce a Car’s Resale Value?

The opposite is true. A vehicle with well-maintained, undamaged paint is worth significantly more at resale than the same vehicle with rock chips, swirl marks, and faded clear coat. PPF preserves the original factory paint, which is the single biggest factor in any used vehicle valuation.

When the time comes to sell or trade in, the film can be removed cleanly to reveal paint that looks the way it did the day you drove the car off the lot. Buyers and dealers both pay a premium for that.

16. Is All Paint Protection Film the Same?

No, and this is one of the biggest misconceptions in the industry. The market is full of low-quality films sold by shops competing on price, and the difference shows up in how the film performs over time.

Cheap PPF can yellow, peel, fail to self-heal, and leave residue when removed. High-quality XPEL film, installed correctly by a certified technician, holds up for the full 10-year warranty period.
